Affect Regulation Therapy Training Courses

These training courses are designed for clinicians to master Affect Regulation Therapy and to incorporate new tools into their existing psychotherapy treatment protocols. A.R.T. is a valuable for mental healthcare management programs and provides valuable long term results. Within a few sessions, clients will experience reduced stress  levels, rapid improvement of mood and an increased commitment to therapy.

Admission criteria:

Training in A.R.T. is available for registered psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical and counseling psychologists and clinical social workers. A minimum of four years qualification required. A.R.T. Practitioner Certification requires supervision of three case studies.

LEVEL 1: Learn the basics.

Benefits, Applications, Theory and Research

Access twelve hours of online or audio lectures at your convenience. We examine: How A.R.T.has benefits for affect dysregulation, a common problem in mental health. Illustrated with case studies and videos; Research on psycho-social dynamics, such as attachment and neuro-physiological and psycho-social developmental influences on affect regulation, plus the interface between these systems; Impacts of stress and trauma; Therapeutic ingredients based on developmental, psychodynamic and behavioral psychology principles; Common processes of change and personality development activated by psychotherapy.

Learning objectives for participants include:

  • familiarity with relevant theory and research
  • learn to recognise stages of stress, signs of stress release and healthy affect regulation in clients
  • learn the relevance of using A.R.T. for various mental health conditions

LEVEL 2: Master the techniques.

Practical Training in Brief Affect Regulation Therapy

Practical training in clinical applications is a 9 hour course (3 x 3 hours) via skype or phone. Completed within 1 month. We integrate theory with practice, you get an overview of the growth processes triggered by A.R.T. and the practical application protocols help you master A.R.T. skills quickly and effectively with plenty of hands on practice.

Learning objectives for participants include:

  • integrate theory and research with clinical applications
  • learn to recognise stages of stress, signs of stress release and healthy affect regulation in clients
  • assess mental state, affect regulation, personality development, therapeutic progress
  • communicate effectively with clients during A.R.T.
  • learn how to incorporate A.R.T. into existing therapy protocols
  • practice and master A.R.T. techniques
  • learn the relevance of using A.R.T. for various mental health conditions

LEVEL 3: Advanced skills.

Practical training in Long term Affect Regulation Therapy

There are 4 modules (9 hours each – 3 x 3 hours) via skype or phone completed over 6 months that focus on developing more mature personality traits by triggering a completion of psychological development through all the growth phases from infancy to adulthood and by releasing deepseated stress and trauma.

Learning objectives for participants include:

  • understanding theories of personality development
  • familiarity with the applications and benefits of long term Affect Regulation Therapy
  • knowledge of the completion of psychological developmental stages during long term psychotherapy.
  • competent use of the sensory and cognitive systems in psychotherapy
  • balancing self regulatory systems and psychological defence mechanisms in a therapy setting.
  • addressing the impacts of dysfunctional family relationships, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, trauma, childhood neglect and deprivation, early childhood separation from parents, birth trauma and intergenerational stress on mental health.
  • measuring progress during therapy.
  • mastering practical application of long term A.R.T.
